Recent developments, however, would seem to suggest that this widely held opinion about Linux could now be "Old Hat." Many think this best known of open-source OSes -- the leading vendor of which is distributor/packager Red Hat Software -- could in fact be ready to play a more serious role in enterprise IT soon, if it isn't in fact already for some firms.
